Roller Coasters
We put our engineering skills to the test and designed roller coasters last Tuesday. We got to see how hard an engineer's job is when they are designing real roller coasters, and discussed all the things they must consider to build these incredible rides.

STEM Club Yesterday
I didn't have a chance to take pictures, as we were up to our elbows in juice pouches, but we learned a lot in STEM Club yesterday about the impact waste has on our environment, and how much waste we generate as a society (it was pretty gross)!
We estimated how many juice pouches we think we have collected so far (we ranged from 100-600 in our realistic estimations). We also estimated how many pounds we thought our collection weighed. The average estimate ranged from 20 lbs. to 50 lbs. We packed up the juice pouches into a box, and Mrs. Owen placed them in the front office for UPS to come collect them today.

Stay posted to see how many pouches/lbs, and points we have earned for our collection so far!

We Recycle!
Green STEM Club Members working hard recycling! Club members, remember to join us Thursday mornings to help collect and sort recycling!
Spaghetti Towers
At our first meeting, we put our engineering skills to the test and made towers and structures out of raw spaghetti noodles and marshmallows! It proved to be quite the challenge, but the group had a great, messy time.

Welcome!
Welcome to all the new (and returning) members of the Green STEM Club! There are lots of great activities in store for this coming school year, and I am so glad you get to be a part of it!
Don't forget our first meeting is this coming Tuesday, October 22nd from 3:00-4:00. We will meet the second and fourth Tuesday of each month.
In addition to our regular meetings, Green STEM Club members will have the opportunity to participate in our recycling project before school each Thursday. We plan to collect the recycling bins from each classroom, and sort the recycling materials into the appropriate bins. We will be collecting drink pouches, as well, and sending those in to Terra Cycle to earn money for our school!

Up Up and Away!
Our year together has come to an end. We had a celebration including rockets and cupcakes! Mr. Rodriguez came out to help us shoot off the rockets. Dr. Small got in on the action! He launched two rockets, and even caught one in mid-air!
Mrs. Rodriguez and Mrs. Owen have enjoyed our time with you all. We wish our fifth graders the best of luck in middle school. We hope you continue to foster a love for S.T.E.M. based activities as you move on to sixth grade. To our second, third, and fourth grade members: see you next year!
